The daughter died suddenly – my mother found a secret message in her room
Most kids look forward to going to college, exploring the world, and making lots of friends. Taylor Smith, a 12-year-old from Johnson, Tennessee, was no exception. This young woman spent her days with her family and friends and was a huge Doctor Who fan.
Smith revealed those ambitions in an April 2013 letter to her future self. The letter was placed in a box in her room “to be opened by Taylor Smith on April 12, 2023 only (unless otherwise noted)”.
Unfortunately, she didn’t live long enough to see if her ambitions came true. Taylor died of sudden pneumonia a few months after writing this letter.
Tim and Mary Ellen Smith, her parents, are both devastated. They couldn’t believe their little daughter was no longer with them.
They discovered the note while going through their belongings one day. Because it moved them so much, they decided to post it online in hopes of bringing comfort to others.
“I can’t physically revive her, I can’t bring her back,” Mary Ellen wrote in response to her daughter’s letter.
I’m glad her story inspired others.”

Greetings, Taylor!
What’s new in your life? Right now, life is quite straightforward (10 years in your past). I’m sorry for being late, but as I’m writing this, it’s still early, so congratulations on graduating from high school! If you didn’t succeed, go back and try again. Get that diploma! Is it true that you (we) are at college? I understand if you don’t want to. After all, we do have some sound arguments.
Don’t forget that today is Allana’s 11th birthday! Sheesh, you’re eleven already? She was only a year old when I was born! However, I was unable to attend the party since I was on my first mission trip to Cranks, Kentucky. It’s barely been 6 days since I returned!
And while we’re on the subject, how’s your connection with GOD? Have you recently prayed, worshiped, studied the Bible, or gone to serve God? If you haven’t already, get up and do it RIGHT NOW! It doesn’t matter where we are in our lives right now; just do it! For you, he was humiliated, beaten, tormented, and crucified! A sinless man who has never wronged you or anybody else!
Have you gone on any other mission trips since then? Have you traveled outside of the United States yet? What about flying?
Do you know if Doctor Who is still on the air? If not, with what kind of regeneration did they terminate it? It’s time for you to watch some Doctor Who! However, you must complete reading your own words of wisdom afterward!
Do you have a place of your own yet? What are we majoring in if we’re at college? I’m currently pursuing a career as a lawyer.
Have you recently visited Dollywood? The Wild Eagle is their newest attraction right now. It’s a lot of fun!
Also, I’m thinking about selling my iPad and replacing it with an iPad mini. Don’t forget to inform your kids that we’re older than the tablet! I’ve also attached a drawing of an iPad for you to show them.
That’s all I have to say about it. But keep in mind that this was written ten years ago. Things have happened, both good and tragic. That’s the way life is, and you have to accept it.
